SMART GAUGE™
Installation Areas:

Coal fired boilers tend to form the most tenacious deposits in the super and re-heater area which is the hottest part of the convection pass area. The deposits are difficult to remove if the cleaning action is delayed and they are prone to develop into clinkers that threaten boiler integrity and reliability. Boiler operators, however, currently do not have a reliable tool to monitor and pinpoint the build-up to take timely corrective actions.

SMART Gauge™ is the right solution for that problem. A network of specialized strain gauges is mounted to the hanger rods supporting the pendants. Through the use of patented technology, Clyde Bergemann is able to determine the exact quantity and location of the deposits. This is achieved so accurately that individual sootblower operations can be selectively initiated and monitored as part of an intelligent sootblower system.

System description:

The SMART Gauge™ system is an automatic on-load measurement and monitoring system of the fouling in the convection pass area which comprises of the following main components:

Measuring module
Strain gages will be installed on the hanger rods which support the pendants. The load on the roads varies with the ash deposits. Measurement of the load and comparison to clean condition will determine ash loading. The gauge sensitivity is less than 50kg.

Monitoring module
The installed strain gages will provide data of each hanger rod which will be shown in different display views. The individual SMART Gauge™ data identifies location of deposits and effect of sootblowers.

Sootblowing module
The Smart Gauge™ system allows intelligent convection pass sootblowing. The data will provide a clear view of when and where sootblowing is necessary. The sootblowing process in that area can be optimised by automatic sootblowing effectivity analysis. This will lead also to optimised maintenance.

Core Benefits
