Visual Boiler Inspection
An advanced mobile camera system for optimisation of steam generator performance

Installation Areas:

The challenge:

In power plants a burning process with high temperatures takes place. The particles from this process produce slagging on boiler walls, heat exchangers etc.

Optical online inspection of slagging or cleaning processes directly with a human eye is impossible under these conditions.

The solution:

The high temperature camera probe is designed
for these special conditions.
The temperature sensitive camera,
is protected by a special cooled housing.
Safe and reliable optical inspection in this
high temperature environment is only
possible with this kind of approved probe
technology.
Various applications like different boiler
types, different wall thicknesses, different
viewing angles and the type of picture
recording can be realised with these special
furnace probes.

Seeing is better than just believing !!
The furnace probe:

The furnace probe consists mainly of two parts. The cooled metal housing and the CCTV camera system.
The temperature sensitive camera is located at the front end of the housing. The picture of the object is guided through a 5 to 10 mm wide hole via a lens to the camera. The image produced by the camera can be recorded with the digital recorder. The metal housing is necessary to protect the sensitive camera against the high temperatures and particles in the boiler.

Compressed air and water are used for cooling. The pressure air is blown into the inner tube for cooling the camera lens in front of the furnace probe and to protect the probe from incoming particles.

Advantages of the camera system:

  • optical online monitoring of slagging
  • compact and robust construction
  • mobile- suitable for flexible use
  • possible optical recording

Inspection service:

The optical inspection of heat exchanger surfaces with a camera system supports the maintenance of a boiler by exact localisation of slagging. Optical inspection also supports the optimisation of parameters of sootblowers. Furthermore the optical inspection can help to identify damages in the boiler.

Clyde Bergemann offers this optical inspection service for boilers.

The knowledge and experience of on-load boiler cleaning technology makes Clyde Bergemann the right partner for optical boiler inspection.
